Philip Sotnychenkoand Valeria Sochyvets

In 2013, Philip Sotnychenko and Valeria Sochyvets independently created the short film Son without funding. In 2014, they created and registered a community, the NGO Contemporary Ukrainian Cinema "CUC". Since 2015, we have organised over 200 screenings of the Contemporary Ukrainian Cinema programs and compiled the following short film almanacs: "Crossroads", "Portraits", "Man and Woman", "Black and White", "Looking Glass", "Carousel of Ukrainian Animation", "Youth", "Parents and Children", "Dialogues", "Ukr.Doc.", "Animation Kaleidoscope", "OIFF: The Best in Short", "About Love", "Ukrainian Short Films: Winners of National Competitions".Since 2016, CUC has been registered as an LLC and participates in state film competitions.

The CUC was involved in the film program at the following festivals: "GOGOLFEST, Kyiv Comic Con, Intermezzo, Porto Franko, KinoHvylka, Bobritsa Film Festival. " CUC produced special programmes "Focus on Ukrainian Cinema" at the Kyiv International Film Festival "Molodist", Lviv International Short Film Festival Wiz-Art, and the educational project Public Talk at the Odesa International Film Festival.
From 2015 to 2017, the CUC team held three Golden CUC competitions for young filmmakers at the GOGOLFEST festival, where the audience chose the best film in five categories: fiction, documentary, animation, video art and music video. In addition, CUC held a short film competition called Ukraine's Path to Peace, initiated by Ihor Yankovsky, founder of the Initiative for the Future Foundation, and curated by director Nikon Romanchenko.

In 2016, CUC, together with its partner Planet Kino, organised KINOKLASS, an educational project curated by Mira Oyetoro, which consisted of 50 masterclasses by leading Ukrainian filmmakers. This project grew into KINOSEREDA, which CUC continued to organise together with ART PORT, and later with the Master Class House, PORT CREATIVE HUB and the Cinema House. The KinoSereda project was an informal meeting of filmmakers, screenings of new films, masterclasses, and script readings that ran from 2016 to 2018. In September 2019, the Cinema House, with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, hosted the KINOOGLAD Ukrainian Film Festival, produced by Sabina Asadova. The updated mixed format of the KINOSERVICE project was held online in 2021 and was implemented with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation under the curation of producer Mira Oyetoro. The NGO also produced several short films separately from the LLC's activities.
